Betcha thought I fell off the face of the earth. Nope. Something had to give and this was it. Now that the stockings are hung by the chimney with care and all that good stuff I am back. Cookies are made, gifts are purchased and wrapped, cards went out in the mail, karate promotion is over……just one thing right after another. That is what makes the season so much fun. So my mom reminded me today “where I left off”….she said that Evelyn and Judy will be really disappointed if I don’t get caught up so here you go…..since my birthday….I baked:

cookie dough truffles
mint meltaways
rum balls
red velvet cookies
egg nog cookies
and the winner? cookie dough truffles. Best thing I have ever eaten in my life. Worth making. Did I say worth making? I am going to steal a photo off the internet and post the recipe. MAKE THESE!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles
Makes approx. 3-4 dozen. Recipe from Love and Olive Oil.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup milk or soy milk
1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
14 oz dark chocolate candy coating
Directions:
Beat butter and sugars in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add milk and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt and mix on low speed (or stir by hand) until incorporated. Stir in chocolate chips.
Cover and chill dough for 1 hour.
When dough is firm enough to handle, form dough into 1″ balls and arrange on a baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Place sheets in freezer and let chill for 30 minutes.
Melt chocolate candy coating in microwave according to package directions. Using toothpicks as a dipping tool, dip cookie balls into candy coating to cover. Tap on side of pan to remove any excess coating, and return to waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Chill until set. Store, chilled, in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
Trust me when I tell you that YOU MUST MAKE THESE!
Anyway back to us…..because after all this is what this is all about. Gavin and his trains…it never ends:
Seriously…look how he lines them up and stacks them up. Speaking of Gavin..wow..what a show at school. His class had a nice presentation and they did so awesome. They set the class up like a living room scene and the theme was “the night before Christmas” :
Santa even showed up! Speaking of Santa…he showed up on a fire truck in our neighborhood:
He even threw candy to us and then showed up at Gavin’s school several days later AGAIN!:
Boy oh Boy with Santa showing up everywhere who needs that elf. Oh that elf. No photos but he is still up to his regular tricks. Gavin loves him. Ok…so last Saturday we went to see my nephew Connor play football. Oh what fun that was:
What a nice day it was and what fun it was watching Connor play. Although they did not win they played very well and put in a good effort. Most of the rest of the weekend we did very little and enjoyed our time together . We actually do that much more than it seems. Sunday Gavin and Ella played and I don’t even think we left the house. My kind of day. Rolling on to Tuesday ….Gavin had his next belt promotion in karate. He is now a yellow belt. My sister, her husband and all 4 of Gavin’s cousins, including Shelby who is home from college (who he really adores) came to see Gavin. Here are the photos:
Then after a job well done, guess who showed up again? SANTA…yes, this guy is everywhere. Guess what else? Santa is a BLACK BELT….we all knew that but the kids were really impressed when that was pointed out!
Pretty cool, huh? Well after that the whole family…all 9 of us went to OSAKA…the Japanese Steakhouse. What a treat. From there it got better for Gavin because he got to go home with his cousins. He has been there since Tuesday. They have gone to Universal, to the movies and now they are going to the Orlando Science Center. That is tomorrow. Tomorrow night we pick him up and off we go to a xmas party with friends in Tampa. We will drive back to Orlando, spend the night at my sisters, have xmas with the kids Saturday morning and then come home and have a nice relaxing xmas with my sister and her husband here at our house….it will be quiet. My goal is to learn how to use my sewing machine over the weekend.
